¶ SMS Consent
How we ask, and how you opt in.

The short version
TipLobby sends SMS to two groups, each with a distinct opt-in:
- Building staff— after your Stripe account is submitted, you are asked whether you want text message updates. Clicking “Yes, text me too” is your SMS consent. SMS is optional; declining does not affect your ability to receive tips.
- Referrers — when you request a referral link at /refer and choose phone as your delivery channel, the form discloses that submitting consents to receive your link plus event-triggered follow-ups (building signup and bonus payout notices). Reply STOP at any time to opt out.
How it works — building staff
- The AM enters your number.When a building's account manager invites you, they enter your mobile number into the invite form.
- You receive an invitation email. The email contains your secure setup link.
- You complete Stripe onboarding. After your Stripe account is submitted, you land on a confirmation page.
- You choose whether to opt in to SMS.The confirmation page asks: “Want text updates too?” Clicking “Yes, text me too” records your consent. Clicking “No thanks” keeps you email-only.
How it works — referrers
- You enter your phone number. On the referral request form you choose phone as your delivery channel and enter your number.
- You submit the form.The form includes the disclosure: “By submitting, you agree to receive occasional recurring messages: your link, a notice when a building signs up, and a notice when your bonus is ready. Reply STOP to opt out.” Submitting is your consent record.
- You receive your referral link by SMS. A message is sent immediately containing your unique link.
- You receive event-triggered follow-ups. If a building signs up using your link or when your bonus vests, you receive a notification. These are sent only when the corresponding event occurs.
What we send
- Referral link delivery — an SMS to referrers who request their link via the phone channel.
- Referral attribution notification — sent to a referrer when a building signs up using their link.
- Referral payout notification — sent to a referrer when their bonus vests.
- One-time passcodes (OTP) — sent when you initiate a sign-in as a staff member.
- Tip-received notifications — sent to opted-in staff when a resident tips them through TipLobby.
We do not send marketing SMS. We do not send broadcast or scheduled SMS. Every send is triggered by a specific action you or a resident initiates.
Keywords we honor
- STOP, STOPALL, UNSUBSCRIBE, CANCEL, END, or QUIT — opts you out. We will not send you further SMS.
- HELP or INFO — replies with support contact information and a reminder of the STOP keyword.
Rates and frequency
Message frequency is low — typically under ten messages per month for most users, varying based on how often you sign in and how often residents tip you. Message and data rates may apply, billed by your mobile carrier.
